The short version
VTT Subtitle Editor does not upload your VTT, video, or audio files to our servers. Parsing, editing, validation, waveform decoding, preview, draft storage, and export run locally in your browser. You can use the editor without an account.
Files and subtitle content
When you open a VTT file or local media file, browser APIs read it on your device. Media uses a temporary object URL scoped to the current page. We do not receive or intentionally log:
- subtitle text, cue identifiers, timestamps, cue settings, or filenames;
- video or audio content, metadata, or waveform samples; or
- the raw VTT document copied or downloaded from the editor.
Local browser storage
The editor uses local storage on your device for your selected color theme, configurable quality-check thresholds, and an optional subtitle draft. A returning visit offers to restore or discard the draft; it is not synchronized to us. Local media is never stored. Clearing this site's browser data removes those settings and drafts.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits and a small allowlist of product actions, such as opening a document by file or paste, adding a cue, using a timing tool, or exporting. Analytics may receive the page URL, referrer, browser and device information, approximate geography derived from IP address, and these coarse interaction events. Google Analytics may set or read analytics cookies.
Our event code deliberately excludes subtitle content, filenames, media, raw documents, cue timestamps, search or replacement text, and free-form form values. Google signals and advertising personalization signals are disabled in our site configuration. Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy and browser controls such as the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Server and delivery logs
Our hosting and security provider may process ordinary request data—such as IP address, requested path, timestamp, user agent, and security signals—to deliver the static site, prevent abuse, and diagnose availability. These requests fetch the application files; they do not include the local files you edit.
Feedback and email
If you choose to email us, we receive the address, message, and attachments you send. The feedback page opens your own email client rather than posting form contents to this website. Do not attach private subtitle or media files unless you intentionally want us to inspect them.
Sharing, sale, and retention
We do not sell personal information. We share limited data only with service providers needed to host, secure, measure, or operate the site, or when legally required. Local drafts remain under your browser's control. Email is retained only as reasonably needed to answer and maintain support records; aggregate analytics follows the configured Google Analytics retention controls.
Your choices
You can block analytics with browser privacy controls, remove local drafts by selecting “Discard” when offered or clearing site data, and use the core editor with analytics blocked. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of personal information we hold.
Children and changes
This general-purpose editing tool is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as the product or service providers change; the date above will identify the current version.
